Local HR Firm Works To Manage Pandemic Unemployment Fraud

A Capital Region HR firm is speaking out how their clients and they themselves have been impacted by unemployment fraud.

Rose Miller is the President of Albany-based Pinnacle Human Resources, LLC. She says since around the beginning of the year, they’ve been dealing with this pandemic-related unemployment fraud.

She says she herself and several of her employees have received letters from the NYS Department of Labor with information about unemployment benefits they never applied for.

Miller also says many of the clients they serve have been contacting her, saying their employees have also been targets of scammers.

Miller says the correspondence usually has old or unusual addresses, but the biggest concern has been one we’ve heard before: full Social Security numbers.

“I have a team of HR Consultants, and I asked them are you hearing this from our clients? They all spoke up and they said oh we’re going crazy with these, we’re getting a flurry of them in,” Miller tells CBS 6.”

Officials in Vermont have a warning as well. Officials say there have been national attempts through social media to try and scam people, by creating fake pages that try to communicate with potential victims.

It continues to be a national issue that CBS 6 will keep investigating.
