Employees of Diageo India, the alcohol and beverages company, may now enjoy a 26-week long parental leave post-birth or adoption of a child. This policy covers employees of all ranks and all genders. The leave can be availed even by those who opt for parenthood through surrogacy, as per a report in the Times of India. This family leave policy is further made attractive with flexible hours, crèche allowance, maternity/surrogacy benefits, and even 10 weeks’ leave in case of a miscarriage.
In July 2020, Diageo India had rolled out an enhanced wellness policy for its employees, including the LGBTQ community, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression.
At the time, the Company had announced that it will also provide equal medical and leave benefits to same sex and live-in partners. It had assured that all the employees will get surrogacy and fertility treatment medical benefits, as per the terms and conditions of the policy concerned. The Company had, then, revised and expanded the definition of ‘family’ to include ‘same sex’ and ‘live-in partners’.
Further reflecting its commitment to its diversity and inclusion agenda, Diageo has now extended this 26-week parental leave to all, irrespective of gender. This leave can be applied for by spouses and partners any time they wish to, within a year of adopting or delivering the child.
This is part of the Company’s endeavor to allow employees quality time to raise families even while giving their best at the workplace.
